11th Annual Dungeness River Festival
The Dungeness River Festival, Friday, September 24 through Sunday, September 26, celebrates the gifts the River provides and inspires stewardship of this crucial resource. Most events and activities will be held in Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road in Sequim. Admission is free. Students and adults will enjoy more than 20 hands-on nature activities and exhibits including fish printing, a vegetable quiz, and animal pelts to touch, in addition to expert-guided walks, presentations, and more. Special attractions on Friday include The Five Acre School Marimba Band, the Sound Waves, and ‘Drums, Baskets, and Stories of the Jamestown S’Klallam People,’ a presentation in the Dungeness River Audubon Center, by renowned Jamestown S’Klallam story teller and Tribal Elder Elaine Grinnell. Highlights on Saturday include a Swift Water Rescue Demonstration, music by Kentucky Bullfrog, and a Community Drumming Circle. The Olympic Driftwood Sculptors’ anniversary show, featuring 70-80 sculptures, is Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the River Center. Additional highlights on Sunday include a bird walk, nature art activities, music by Cort Armstrong and by Me, Myself, and I, a one-man band & musical show by Mike Kamphaus. Check the River Center web site, www.DungenessRiverCenter.org, for the complete Festival schedule, lodging discounts, and directions.
