Fishing & Shellfishing

Fishing and Shellfishing

With the Pacific Ocean on the west, the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the north and Hood Canal on the east, the fishing possibilities are endless. Some of the best river fishing in the world can be found on the Elwha, Bogachiel, Hoh and Sol Duc Rivers. Good lake fishing can be had at Lake Leland, Lake Aldwell, Lake Sutherland, Lake Crescent, Lake Pleasant, and Lake Ozette. Clallam Bay and Sekiu have been a mecca for decades for ocean fishing, as are La Push on the Pacific Ocean and Neah Bay at the Peninsula's northwestern tip. Many charters sail out of these bays and harbors.

Fly Fishing Sol Duc River

The Olympic Peninsula is home to some of the Pacific Northwest's most fertile fishing grounds. Winding its way through the Olympic National Park, the Sol Duc River offers fishermen of all levels a chance to cast for that prize catch of the season. Winter anglers have the opportunity to fish for native steelhead while sharing the shores with river otters, Roosevelt elk and other wildlife. Or fish in the spring and summer for Kings, which run as large as 50 pounds.

John Wayne Marina

The great film legend John Wayne was a frequent visitor to Sequim Bay aboard the family yacht, the "Wild Goose." John Wayne was struck by the pristine natural elegance of Sequim Bay and believed it was the perfect location for a marina. An ideal destination for water adventurers, the marina stands on land donated by the late film star in 1975. The main Marina building has a collection of John Wayne memorabilia on display. The facility is designed to be compatible with its surroundings, so barefoot mariners can look forward to a quiet cove and excellent amenities.
