Olympic Discovery Trail

A paved trail system that connects Port Townsend on Puget Sound to the Pacific beaches at La Push is 70% on abandoned Railroad grade. The trail is growing as sections are completed and is being constructed as a non-motorized corridor, including equestrian use in most areas. When completed, the trail will cover 120 miles and will be one of the longest trail systems in the US. A year-round opportunity to explore the beautiful scenery edging the northern Olympic Peninsula along the historic route of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroads.

The trail offers unique views of the snowcapped Olympic Mountains, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, farm fields and forested foothills. Completed sections, including a 28 mile piece from Blyn to Port Angeles, present hikers and bikers with a variety of experiences - from a New England style covered bridge to a 200-acre forest research farm and the Dungeness River Interpretive Center. A new 25 mile "Adventure Route" connecting trail, opened in summer 2008, connects the Elwha River west of Port Angeles to the north shore of Lake Crescent. It is a dirt trail suitable for mountain bikes, equestrians and hikers. Download the "ADVENTURE ROUTE" brochure. Also, The North Olympic Discovery Marathon takes place each year on the trail between Sequim and Port Angeles in early June. Trail details can be found at www.OlympicDiscoveryTrail.com
